Mesquite, TX – December 23, 2020 – More investment by property owners into their locations in Downtown Mesquite is on the way. The Mesquite City Council has approved two new applications for the façade improvement program. Hair Affair, 136 E. Main Street and Barbers Ink, 111 W. Main Street, will have significant enhancements to the exteriors of the buildings.
Mesquite Downtown Manager Beverly Abell said, “Downtown Mesquite development continues to grow as we are seeing more investment by property owners as well as the addition of new businesses and expansion of existing businesses. Our program became nationally accredited earlier this year, Alejandro’s at Front Street Station has announced their expansion to this area, MVP Nutrition & Energy is among our new businesses, we won two statewide awards for our work, we saw tremendous participation in our Small Business Saturday activities for the holidays and now the growth of this façade program further showcases the economic viability of Downtown Mesquite.”
The Hair Affair project is more than $47,000 and will feature the replacement of the entire exterior of their building as well as new windows, doors and other aesthetic treatments. The Barbers Ink project is more than $16,000 and will be highlighted with new signage, electrical and awnings as well as a new identity with Bink Suite becoming the fresh name with the fresh look of the building.
The first two Downtown Mesquite façade improvement grants were approved by City Council in October 2019. It marked the first use of a new incentive program for the improvement of downtown properties. The Downtown Mesquite Façade Improvement Program was created to encourage improvement of properties within the downtown area. Approved projects are eligible for a 50% reimbursement of the cost, with the maximum reimbursement of $20,000. The program also includes free design services.
